Dear parents,
Since the fire that broke out Thursday morning in Rouen in the Lubrizol factory, we are following the evolution of the situation very closely, in direct contact with the Prefecture and the academic authorities, to take the appropriate security measures that are needed.
The following measures have been taken accordingly:
• | The campus was closed on Thursday, in accordance with the guidelines of the Prefecture |
• | We took the decision to keep the campus closed on Friday, in line with the precautionary principle and the measures decided by the Rectorate for Rouen’s schools |
• | Friday and during the weekend, the campus has been inspected several times. No soot or visible pollution was observed on campus. |
• | Despite the lack of visible pollution, a full cleaning of the interior of the premises was carried out on Saturday, in line with the recommendations from the Regional health body. The floors of all buildings, including classrooms, will be washed with water every day until further notice. |
• | A large-scale cleaning of the surroundings of buildings and outdoor furniture is also planned Monday morning between 6am and 8am. |
• | To avoid possible smell, classrooms and offices will therefore be ventilated regularly on Monday morning and ventilation filters will be inspected. |
The Prefecture and the Regional health body communicated Saturday the results of the last analyzes of air and soot:
• | The additional measurements confirm the first analyses and show a normal level of air quality, with the exception of the measurement carried out on the Lubrizol site for benzene |
• | Soot samples do not show different metal contents of the control sample outside the plume |
• | Concerning the presence of asbestos, a program of measurements of fibers in the air was engaged in the site and within a radius of 300 meters (the campus is not within this perimeter) . First results will be available from Tuesday. Additional analyses will also be conducted beyond 300 meters. |
Based on all these elements, the Rouen campus will re-open in a normal way from Monday morning onwards.
The health of all remains our priority, so be sure that we will follow the situation closely.
